Finding the waves that matter: predicting wave impact design loads on marine structures

How can we reliably predict design loads for rare and destructive wave impacts without running a large number of expensive simulations? This presentation introduces my work on a new method to obtain accurate extreme load predictions at a strongly reduced computational cost. The approach combines statistical dependence modelling with hydrodynamic simulations, opening new possibilities for the efficient design of safer ships and offshore structures.
